A New Home Found for James Quinn

Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez and Nigel Adkins clearly have a higher opinion of James Quinn’s abilities than most Cobblers’ fans. Sanchez has selected Quinn for the Northern Ireland squad and Adkins has taken Quinn on loan to Scunthorpe until the end of the season. Quinn has made only 18 appearances for Northampton since signing from Peterborough last summer, 14 of those have been as sub.

Cobblers` fans have not been impressed with the big man, who has stated himself that he doesn’t score many goals. We can hope that he makes such an impression with the Iron that they will do a straight swap for Billy Sharp at the end of the season.

Another Cobblers’ player out on loan is Jerome Watt, for a month to Salisbury, having only just returned from a loan period at Morecombe. Another early season signing, Watt has only been on the fringes of the first team. Whilst he has pace he has lacked the end product to his play in league one.

Finally, Stuart Gray has returned to Reading to sign a young striker on loan. 19 year-old Simon Cox comes from Reading with a good goal-scoring record at reserve level. He joins team mate Alex Pearce who has been a phenomenal success as a centre-back for the Cobblers. Pearce would be a very popular signing in the summer. So far Gray has made a number of shrewd signings for the club. Let’s hope Cox is another one.
