You shouldn’t really need me to say that our weekend win was “a very important result”, however facts of the matter are it was! The boss also knows this.

Accrington Stanley are riding high, or were, in the form table but are likely to be in the relegation mix come the end of the season you’d think so Northampton needed a result.

We did, the Cobblers climbed off the bottom of the league two table thanks to a 1-0 win over Stanley, who had gone eight game unbeaten before Saturday.

Aidy Boothroyd knows the importance of this win, despite some nerves being evident. Now that we’re off the bottom of the table, at Torquay’s expense, the table looks a lot healthier with a few more results in our favour likely to see us sitting comfy in midtable.

Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton: ‘We’re still a bit nervy and they’re top of the form table but we weathered it.

‘We did what we had to do. It was a very important result. You look at the table and another couple of good results could see us into mid-table.

‘Once you get there, you take it from there. But it looks better than it did.’

Stuart Dallas was the man to strike to give us the win, however praise was given to our new look strike force.

The pairing of Clive Platt and Izale McLeod was a definite plus point.

The pair know each other and have played together before and that told with McLeod coming in for an instant debut following his loan arrival to partner the fit again Platt.
