Yet again we were involved in a goal-fest, but this time we were on the wrong ended of the outcome as the goals flooded in at the weekend.

Northampton went into the game at Sixfields on Saturday knowing that a promotion bid would take a huge boost with a win over Accrington Stanley, although John Coleman’s amazing return to the club as boss ended with them winning 5-4!

Accrington opened the scoring around the midway point of the first half when Robert Atkinson (22) headed home, but Marc Richards (26) gave us the perfect response when he levelled up within minutes.

That wasn’t the case for long with John O’Sullivan (28) restoring the visitors lead within minutes and Atkinson (37) made it three-one before the break with his second.

When the scoreline became four-one, when O’Sullivan (75) added his second that was, so it seemed, that but minutes later Ivan Toney (78) scored his first of the season to reduce the deficit again but five-minutes from time a three-goal lead was restored when Sean Maguire (84) scored.

A last minute goal from Toney (89) and an injury-time striker from Darren Carter (90), also a player who came off the bench, wasn’t enough as we added another four-goals to our five in midweek but this time in conceding five we lost out.
