Northampton welcomed Sheffield United to Sixfields on Tuesday for the latest pre-season friendly as Chris Wilder’s preparations for the new season continued.

The Cobblers battled back from a goal down to secure a credible 1-1 draw with the league 1 side, for what results are worth at this stage of the season of course.

A strike on 27-minutes from Andy Butler, as he headed home a Ben Davies freekick, was enough to send Sheffield United into the half time break one-nil up.

The chance to strike back was given to us just before the hour when Marc Richards was held back by the ‘keeper. Richards wanted the penalty, as did John-Joe O’Toole but it was Richards that took it and he made no mistake to secure a one-one draw.

A special moment came on 76-minutes when Alex Nicholls was able to play at Sixfields for the first time since his long-term injury some 20-odd months ago!

Cobblers: Matt Duke, Daniel Alfei, Gregor Robertson(sub Evan Horwood 69), Zander Diamond, Lee Collins, Chris Hackett (sub Alex Nicholls 76), Ricky Ravenhill (sub Emile Sinclair 69), Darren Carter, Kaid Mohamed, John-Joe O`Toole (sub Ben Tozer 69), Marc Richards (sub David Moyo 84)
Substitutes not used: Dean Snedker, Kelvin Langmead, Connor Roberts
