Chris Wilder has explained to the Chronicle why he wanted to wrap up the contracts of the midfield pair, whilst also confirming that Hornby would be released but isn’t willing to reveal the futures of any of the other will be out of contract players as yet.

As we’ve still got a game to play, which is important for Wycombe and other promotion rivals, he wants us to give our all to end the season on a high so isn’t letting on too much as to what future plans are.

‘I am not dealing with any more contracts this week. My full focus is on getting a win on Saturday.

‘We dealt with a couple of contracts last week, which we thought the timing was right to do, but I won’t be dealing with any other contracts this week.

‘We want to win on Saturday, send our supporters home happy, and finish in the top 10 which I think is an achievement from where we were last year.’

Lee Collins, Matt Duke, Ben Tozer, Darren Carter, Ian Morris, Tom Newey and Shwan Jalal are among those waiting to discover their fate with the decisions to tie down Taylor and Byrom to new two-years contracts made to make sure that interest from other clubs didn’t see them pinched away.

Wilder felt that we had to tie them down now due to that interest and Hornby’s injury problems meant that it was best to give him the best chance of finding a new club as soon as possible.
