Coventry To Play At Sixfields?

Coventry look set to play their League and Cup games this season at Northampton’s Sixfields Stadium.

The unpopular move, you would think, to move Coventry games out of Coventry away from the Ricoh Arena might not go down very well (with some 13,000 signing a petition to keep them in Coventry I think it’s safe to say that assumption is right!) but it seems the Sky Blues will be renting out Sixfields for the next three-years?

It’s believed, as you’d expect it to be the case, that anytime a clash comes up with the fixtures it’ll be the Cobblers that get priority.

Northampton Town officials clearly appear to have forgotten the principles of those involved in ensuring the Cobblers had a future when they faced going out of existence.
The Cobblers were prevented from going out of existence by their Supporters Trust, with the likes of Brian Lomax and Gareth Willsher, now employed by the club, seeking and getting the support of Coventry & Warwickshire based members of the then Football Supporters Association amongst others.
That might have been a good few years ago and time does move on but for a club in existence purely due to the hard work and effort of football supporters and one whose pioneering Trust were once so involved with the supporters movement and bodies such as Supporters Direct, to have gone against the wishes of many thousands of Coventry City supporters and reportedly agreed to a deal which will see the Sky Blues move out of the City which has been its home for just short of 130 years, is nothing short of scandalous and clearly not in keeping with the ethics of a well run club which plays its part in the wider football community.
It would seem that those in on the deal have, to the detriment of their club, fallen for the spin from Tim Fisher of three thousand turning up for a game, seven thousand if the club are doing well, a figure many City supporters consider to be grossly exaggerated, if the laughing and guffawing at the fans forums and the comments of many City supporters, who won’t be going anywhere near Sixfields including those who live in the town or county of Northamptonshire is anything to go by.
Northampton supporters fought tooth and nail to keep their club in business and playing league football in the town of Northampton but now through their Board’s pursuit of more than unlikely cash, the Cobblers are merely signing the death warrant of a club supported by some of those who helped them in their time of need.
