Ricky Holmes had come into top form at arguably the right time for Northampton as with his help the Cobblers have moved to the top of the League 2 table and look well placed to secure promotion into League 1.

But will he be a part of things going forward? If HITC Sport, and what they ‘understand’ is correct from ‘sources close to the club’, are right he could be someone other clubs are looking to prise away from Sixfields?

MK Dons and Rotherham are being linked with a move to take him to the Championship with Millwall, who Northampton of course have a player on loan from, said to be ‘admirers’ of Holmes who they have had watched in recent weeks.

With five-goals in his last nine appearance you can see why he would be attracting interest by Chris Wilder’s highly unlikely to be keen on letting the 28-year-old leave, who himself might be thinking he could be at the level most, if not all, of these sides could be playing at next season with the Cobblers anyway!

Money talks as they say though with the Chronicle & Echo also reporting Wilder was ‘confident of signing at least one more player’ before the transfer deadline ‘as they bid to strengthen their title-chasing squad.’

Southend central defender Luke Prosser had continued to be linked with Northampton, along with the likes of Leyton Orient, Stevenage and Dagenham, with him coming in on a loan capacity from Southend.
