Rumours linking Ivan Toney with a Northampton exit are nothing new, this summer or before, but not for the first time this pre-season he was pulled out of a squad for a friendly with him withdrawn from the team that faced Brackley on Saturday due to ‘ongoing transfer talks.’

Chris Wilder has confirmed to the BBC interest from Premier League and Championship sides has been shown in the striker.

But for a broken down move to Wolves last season Toney would have already left Sixfields, reports have strongly linked him with Newcastle this summer. Despite his withdrawal from that friendly on Saturday Wilder’s said there’s still a lot to be done before this deal to whatever club takes place.

‘There are quite a lot of things that have got to happen for a player to be transferred.

‘Everybody has to sort their own part of the deal out. That’ll progress in its time, and if it does then we’ll deal with it.’

Who wants Toney? Most feel Newcastle do but Wilder wouldn’t ‘speculate’ on anything regarding the 19-year-old past the ‘immediate speculation’ but said he’ll, and we’ll, know more soon….

It would seen after 60 appearances for the Cobblers, scoring 10-goals, Toney’s time with the club is soon to come to an end? Then again we thought that last season too as we did a couple of weeks back!
