Who the baton is being handed over to by Andy King isn’t known yet, but it’ll be happening next week and possible as soon as Monday.

King wasn’t able to end his caretaker tenure on a high note with a third successive defeat suffered against Chesterfield at Sixfields on Saturday.

He’s enjoyed being back in management again and wishes whoever takes over all the best and expects this appointment to be made on Monday, and when it is made it’ll see someone come in with a side that he’s sure is capable of staying up.

The outgoing caretaker boss said: ‘I’ve enjoyed being in charge for the short time I have and I wish the new man all the best when he takes over and I understand that will happen on Monday.

‘I’m not in a position to give advice to the incoming manager after losing again, except they need to go on an unbeaten run if they are to get out of trouble.

‘I know that this squad is good enough to get out of this position but the only way confidence will improve is if they going on a bit of a run, over four or five games.’
