A much needed Northampton win was gained at Exeter on Saturday afternoon as our first win in sometime, added to another Exeter defeat, saw our relegation ‘fears’ and the home sides promotion ‘hopes’ impacted on both counts.

Two first half goals, included a much needed first for John-Joe O’Toole, were enough for us to come away from St James Park with a two-nil win.

Exeter started the game on fire and had countless chances to go ahead, either poor finishing of good saved from Matt Duke, kept us level then Marc Richards (20) forced the ball home to give us the lead.

A second should have come soon after but Richards couldn’t score this time but it wasn’t too much after that O’Toole (29) capitalised on poor Exeter defending to add the second before the half hour mark to secure the points.

Before the game a point, which wouldn’t have been bad, was expected with these were the pre-match polls findings:-

Exeter v Northampton

Draw 100%
Northampton win 0%
Exeter win 0%
