Northampton’s play-off hopes, which were limited anyway, officially ended with defeat against Burton on Saturday but ahead of that game we had the boost that two had penned new contracts.

If we had been looking at League 2 or League 1 football both Joel Byrom and Jason Taylor were in Chris Wilder’s plans, and also wanted to be in our future plans as they had new contracts confirmed.

Byrom had joined us on loan initially from Preston back in August but completed a permanent contract until the end of the season following his release in January, but in the past week it was confirmed that the 28-year-old has now committed for the next two-years.

Likewise Taylor joined us initially on loan but this loan was swiftly converted onto a permanent short-term contract when his contract with Cheltenham, who have since dropped out of the Football League with relegation confirmed on Saturday, was ended. He too had signed until the end of the season but the 28-year-old has also signed on for two-years.

Both good moves that we’ve wrapped up early, as we had to as interest would have been shown otherwise.
