Northampton were dealt a blow in the bid to avoid league two relegation by a familiar face on Easter Monday.

Former Cobblers loanee Danny East returned to Sixfields on Monday with his new club Portsmouth and it was his goal early in the game that won the points for Portsmouth in the one-nil win.

The Cobblers are still very much in with a chance of league two survival though with East confident that his former side can manage this, he certainly says that he wants them to do so.

East told the Chronicle & Echo: ‘I played 20-odd games for Northampton last season and I really want them to stay up. It’s a great club here and there are some great people involved, not just at the club but around the club as well.

‘I’m sure they will stay up, I think they’ve got enough in their team and I think they will stay in the League.

‘In that game against us on Monday they looked dangerous and I reckon they’ll stay up now.’

Goal difference remains the only thing that keeps Northampton in the bottom two with a game at Dagenham & Redbridge taking this place this weekend before the season finale against Oxford United.

Do you have the confidence that Danny East does that the Cobblers will stay up?
