Saturday’s clash between Oxford United and Northampton Town at the Kassam Stadium saw the visitors leave with all three points.

Northampton Town made it six games unbeaten across all competitions following their revival under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Ash Taylor gave them the advantage in the eleventh minute as he scrambled the ball over the line from close in following a corner.

Oxford, who slip to four straight defeats across all competitions were level before the half time break as Wes Thomas broke through in minute 44 to drill an effort in from 18 yards out as he connected with James Henry’s through ball, after Simon Eastwood had kept them in the game with saves from Chris Long and Lewis McGugan.

The joy for the hosts wasn’t to last long through as Long finally got himself on the scoresheet in first half stoppage time as he took full advantage of Ryan Ledson’s error.

At the start of the second half Billy Waters did miss an open goal for the visitors, but that didn’t effect the final score.

Northampton are now two points shy of the dropzone with Oxford sitting in tenth place.
