Marc Richards returned to Sixfields last summer for a second spell with Northampton and what a spell it’s been with him finishing our top goalscorer and claiming the Player of the Year award.

By claiming no fewer than 49% of the votes from the Northampton Chronicle & Echo readers the striker won this convincingly ahead of Ricky Holmes, who only arrived in January but still gained 15% of the votes and Lawson D’Ath, who finished in third with 11%.

Richards wasn’t quite able to win the League 2 Golden Boot though but was presented with his award ahead of our three-two defeat to Wycombe on Saturday, ending a fine season with 18-goals in his 30-matches in the league, with his season of course also disrupted by injury making it all the more impressive.

His goals this season make his return more productive in one season than his previous spell, between 2003-2005 was on the whole, so to say he was a ‘revelation’ wouldn’t be an understatement would it!
