Chris Wilder has confirmed that he will be taking his Northampton squad to Scotland for a week during pre-season.

A Scottish retreat is a tradition for Wilder with the teams that he has managed as he will do the same with the Cobblers in the hope that it gives the squad a good chance to bond.

He told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: ‘I always like going up there. It’s important to go away, especially with the new signings.

‘It’s important that the players get to know each other and each others’ personalities because they’re going to be spending nine months together and we need to get on as a group. If you’re together you’ve got half a chance.

‘One thing you do get up there is competitiveness, the Scottish boys always want to put on a bit of a show when they see an English side coming up the road to give them a game.’

The club will head to Scotland on Tuesday 15th July and a friendly against championship opposition has been pencilled in for Thursday 17th July.

It was also confirmed that the Cobblers will travel to Sileby Rangers for a pre-season friendly once again.

With Wilder hearing good thins about the visit to Fernie Fields last season he was keen to return again as he looks to continue to build links and support among the local clubs in and around Northampton.

Saturday 12th July, with a 3pm kick-off, is the date for the diary.
