Northampton’s pre-season friendlies, ahead of the 2015/16 season, got underway on Sunday with us securing a one-nil win at Sileby Rangers.

Chris Wilder included new signings Adam Smith, Josh Lelan and David Buchanan from the off at Fernie Fields trialists strikers Sam Hoskins, Gozie Ugwu and Joel Purkiss also in from the off as was defender Rod McDonald, the latter of the trialist also featured in the second half.

Almost entirely different XI’s, which included some that might not be at Sixfields when the season begins, were named for each half with former Southampton and Yeovil striker Hoskins what proved to be the winner in the first half.

Of course the main breaking news, following this game, was confirmation that Newcastle had made a bid for Ivan Toney and that’s why he wasn’t involved.

Cobblers first half: Adam Smith, Josh Lelan, David Buchanan, Joel Byrom, Zander Diamond, Rod McDonald (trialist), Joel Purkiss (trialist), John-Joe O`Toole, Gozie Ugwu (trialist), Sam Hoskins (trialist), Chris Hackett
