Northampton’s 2014/15 league 2 season gets underway with a game at Sixfields on Saturday.

Mansfield will be up for the seasons opener but will they be more up for it than the Cobblers, looking to make amends for last seasons disappointment?

Kelvin Langmead (Achilles tendon) will be missing for us, although the positive is that this isn’t related to his previous injury problem. The only other absentee is Lewis Hornby (back) that is a long-term issue.

Chris Wilder could hand debuts to most of his new arrivals.

Mansfield don’t have any concerns with their squad with Liam Hearn, Sascha Studer, Fergus Bell and Alex Fisher set for football league debuts. Summer signings Luke Jones, Amari’i Bell, Simon Heslop and Rob Taylor are also in contention.

Ahead of the game Wilder told BBC Radio Northampton: ‘Mansfield are a competitive side that won the Conference two years ago.

‘At periods last year they were in and around the play-offs.

‘It’s a really open league with a lot of closely matched teams.

‘Every club, on day one, will want a good start. But it’s a long season and whatever we do on Saturday, we have to stay grounded.’

Home advantage should count for something for Northampton and I think it’ll be enough for us to start with a win.
