Pre-season, following Sunday’s opening win, continued for Northampton on Tuesday with us running out comfortable five-two winners at Worthing in the end.

As with our opening friendly Chris Wilder again looked at some trialists but only Sam Hoskins, Gozie Ugwu and Rod McDonald were involved this time, there wasn’t any sign of Joel Purkiss but having got the scoring underway early on Ugwu was forced off with less than 10-minutes played.

Ugwu gave us that early lead before Ben Pope levelled. By half time Ricky Holmes and Sam Hoskins, who had come on, had us three-one up.

A second half effort from Marc Richards made it four before Omar Bugil’s penalty got one back for the home side with Joel Byrom wrapping up our five-two win at Woodside Road.

With a move to Newcastle still not going through, as yet, Ivan Toney made his Cobblers return for his first involvement of pre-season.

Cobblers first half team: Ryan Clarke, Josh Lelan, David Buchanan, Jason Taylor, Ryan Cresswell, Rod McDonald, Lawson D’Ath, John-Joe O’Toole, Gozie Ugwu (sub Sam Hoskins 9), Ivan Toney, Ricky Holmes

Cobblers second half team: Adam Smith, Chris Hackett, Sam Warburton, Zander Diamond, Rod McDonald, Nicky Adams, Danny Clifton, Joel Byrom, Alfie Potter, Marc Richards, Sam Hoskins
