Senior, and further younger players, will find out their Northampton fate soon enough but we’ve confirmed professional contracts have been offered to two of our youngsters.

The Official Website confirmed this week that academy graduates Sam Warburton and Danny Clifton have been offered their first pro contracts.

Chris Wilder’s said that he’s been suitably impressed by their development this season with them doing well in the youth games as well as behind-closed-doors friendlies that we’ve arranged with them a part of it so they’re in his future plans with the first-team.

‘We’re delighted and hopefully it’s a first step for them in terms of making a career in professional football.

‘They’ve done well, whether in youth team games or behind-doors friendly games and when they’ve trained with the first team. We want there to be an opportunity for young players.’

Both Warburton, who is the son of Ray Warburton, is a left back with Clifton a central midfielder, are local lads but the hard work is now only just starting for them!
