In many ways it’s not a surprise, but it doesn’t make it any less disappointing, but it’s been announced that Lewis Hornby will be leaving Northampton at the end of his contract this summer.

Chris Wilder confirmed on the Official Website that the 19-year-old, so highly rated following his breakthrough in October 2012 before his back injury that has prevented him playing in almost two-years, isn’t getting offered a new contract.

Wilder says that he feels it will be in the best interests of all concerned if he looked to ‘get himself up and running’ at another club.

‘The boy hasn’t played football for two years and sometimes you come to a decision between yourself and the coaching staff that maybe he needs to get himself up and running somewhere else.

‘It’s a shame because when I came to the club people were talking about him in a good light but I haven’t been able to see him kick a ball. Hopefully he will get over his injury problems.’

I’ll agree with Wilder, as I’m sure most will, that it’s a shame because Hornby looked to have such a promising career ahead of him, which all being well he still can somewhere else it’s unfortunate that this isn’t going to be at Sixfields….
