It’ll take a lot of luck but Northampton did what we had to on Saturday when we beat Cheltenham at Sixfields, as this win keeps alive our slim chances that a top seven place could still be possible.

Gary Johnson’s return to Sixfields wasn’t a happy one as he went away with nothing but a two-nil defeat, which keeps his Cheltenham side in the bottom two and means that we could still make the play-offs, which you wouldn’t think we can…. But you never know!

Cheltenham had the better of an uneventful first half with Hanks denied only by the bar, as the sides went into the break level.

The lead came our way though just ahead of the hour when Toney (57) convert a D’Ath cross to make it one-nil.

Richards’ (70) latest goal of a fine season, you do wonder how different things might have been had we not lost him to injury for a few weeks recently and during the campaign, confirmed the win 20-minutes from time.

This win moves us to within four-points of Plymouth but it’ll take some effort from us, and collapse from others, for us to still get in you have to concede now….

We’ll be looking to keep these chances alive though in our next game against Burton, who are already heading into League 1.

Can we win that though, and then hope it’s enough?
