Yeovil Mug Northampton

Curious selections, late and bizarre substitutions, the post, Yeovil`s keeper, Cobblers` inability to finish and concentrate for 90+ minutes again cost us the game.

The Cobblers had more of the chances and, as against Brighton, again could not convert them. Stuart Gray speaking to BBC Radio Northampton felt his side had been mugged. Gray felt he could not fault his players commitment, but there were quite a few ‘faults` obvious to the crowd at Sixfields.

Why play Daniel Jones as a left back? His marking was at fault for Yeovil`s first game. Holt has played left back many times and was ineffective in his role in left midfield. If Jones was picked for his ability to run on the wing, then why didn`t we play a wing back formation? Couldn`t he have done left from midfield?

Let`s discuss the midfield. Having talked up Bradley Johnson since the end of last season as a rising star he is yet to put in a performance to warrant the label. He is clearly missing the guidance of Ian Taylor. His current mid-field partner of Ryan Gilligan has done little so far to warrant the shirt. Gilligan was very lucky not to be sent off in the second half for his idiotic spat with a Yeovil player. The home crowd thought that Gray was hurriedly making a substitution to withdraw Gilligan before he was sent off, but bizarrely he stayed on. His complete lack of discipline was evident to all, apart from the manager.

Why Henderson didn`t make an appearance is anyone`s guess. Possibly he has said something out of turn to Gray. But the second half was crying out for someone with pace on the right. Gray made a straight swap, Larkin for an ineffective Kirk, he then replaced an injured Burnell with Dolman, intending to hold out for the point. How football has a habitat of leaping up and biting your complacent bum. In the 93rd minute Lloyd Owusu punished a Cobblers` defence already mentally in the changing rooms to win the game 2-1.

We desperately need one or even two creative midfielders and some luck.
