Yet again Northampton were unable to build on, or hold onto at least, a lead that we had when we had to make do with a point at Chris Wilder’s former club Oxford on Tuesday.

This one-one draw at the Kassam Stadium all but ends any slim, which they were anyway, chances of us making the play-offs this season….

Once more, at half time, things looked good for us with Toney’s (38) freekick shortly before the break deceiving Oxford ‘keeper Ashdown to send us in one-up.

With us unable to find a second, and deciding goal, we were always at risk of conceding an equaliser as we did in injury-time when MacDonald (90+1) scored to make it one-one and send us home having earned a point that would have felt like a defeat!

Now with just three-matches left, even though mathematically it’s still possible, a seven-points gap to seventh will be too much to make up….
